About the MAE Band and Orchestra Program
Mount Airy Elementary School is an amazing place to be for our young musicians! Any student entering the 4th or 5th grade is eligible to join the band or orchestra. We teach traditional band and orchestra instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, percussion, violin, viola, and cello. MAE is home to four ensembles: the Beginning Band, Beginning Orchestra, Advanced Band, and Advanced Orchestra. Throughout the year, our students work hard to make progress on their selected instruments. Each year, they put on a Winter Concert and a Spring Concert. They also perform in side-by-side concerts with other students in the South Carroll Region! Our student musicians learn responsibility, perseverance, and the joy of music all while establishing a sense of pride in their accomplishments.
About Mrs. Mitchell
Hello! My name is Mrs. Jen Mitchell, and I absolutely LOVE band and orchestra! I grew up in Eldersburg, and I am so excited to return to Carroll County to teach. I first learned to play the flute in the 4th grade and that was when I fell in love with music! After graduating from Liberty High School, I attended Towson University where I earned my B.S. in Music Education. While I was at Towson, I was an active member of the Symphonic Band and Orchestra, and I was the drum major of the Towson University Marching Band when we performed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade! In 2017, I graduated from McDaniel College with my M.S. in Educational Leadership. I began teaching at Mount Airy Elementary in 2013. I am looking forward to working with the talented students here each year. I love being a cardinal!
